Classifications of Automotive Wiring Harness Terminals

What is Wire Harness Terminals in Automotive?

Automotive wiring harness terminals are the components in which the wire ends or where it will be connected to other components in vehicle. Similar to wiring harness connectors, the type of terminal needed depends on the intended application.

We usually divide the automotive wiring harness terminals into: front cabin wiring harness terminal assembly, engine wiring harness terminal assembly, gearbox wiring harness terminal assembly, instrument wiring harness terminal assembly, indoor wiring harness terminal assembly, door wiring harness terminal assembly ( Four different doors) and other parts.

However, the division of wiring harness terminals has a great relationship with the structure and assembly process of the automotive.

In order to achieve simple structure and convenient disassembly of specific models, people often adopt modular design in the wiring harness terminal as far as possible to reduce the loop and not stick to these classifications.

wiring harness terminals

Front Cabin Wiring Harness Terminal Assembly

The main electrical components of the front cabin wiring harness terminal include these parts. Powertrain and its accessories (currently there are fewer models with rear-mounted engines). ABS systems, lamps, wiper washing systems and power systems. Central electrical boxes (there are also some models. placed indoors) and some other electrical devices.

Powertrain Wiring Harness Terminal Assembly

The powertrain wiring harness terminals are also located in the front compartment, including the engine crimp contact terminals and the transmission crimp contact terminals. The electrical terminals are mainly the sensors and actuators. Including phase sensor, speed sensor, crankshaft position sensor, knock sensor, temperature sensor, oil temperature sensor, electronic throttle, idle speed control valve, canister, solenoid valve, ignition coil, nozzle, EGR, CBR, vortex flow control valves, high pressure oil pump, pressure and temperature sensors, supercharging pressure sensors, position switch, reversing switch, etc.

Dashboard Wiring Harness Terminal Assembly

The instrument panel concentrates most of the operation switches and display devices of the whole vehicle. At the same time, the butting parts of the crimp terminal pins are often designed on both sides of the instrument panel.

In the instrument panel, there are mainly the following electrical components. For example, HVAC, audio system, safety air race, instrument electrical box, BCM, ECU, TCU, brake switch, electronic accelerator pedal, clutch switch, cigarette lighter, backup power supply and various Switch parts (such as combination switches, alarm switches, etc.).

Indoor Wiring Terminal Assembly

There are relatively few electrical components in the indoor wiring harness terminals. Like electric seats and heating, electronic oil pumps, seat belt switches, rear wheel speed sensors, angle sensors, etc.

Door Wiring Harness Assembly

The door harness terminal (four different doors) are relatively small and has relatively few problems to consider. It is mainly the motion mechanism of the door, the door rubber parts and fixing. The main electrical components of the door harness terminal are glass lifting switch and motor, electric rear view mirror, horn, door lock, lockout, threshold lamp, side turn signal, children’s safety switch and so on.

Others

In addition to the above wiring harness terminals, there are still some other smaller stamping terminals on the vehicle. Such as battery positive and negative crimp terminal pins, ceiling wire harness, airbag wire harness terminal, rear cover wire harness terminal and so on. These smaller crimp contact terminals are usually found in electrical devices. Such as batteries, airbags, rear defrost, license plate lights, dome lights, sunroofs, trunk switches, etc.
